The world was watching last summer when two escaped convicts and an accomplice headed from an Arizona prison to Yellowstone National Park, and now we know why: one of the convicts planned on suicide by grizzly in the wilderness.

One of the 25 Yellowstone National Park bison allowed out of the Park and into Gallatin National Forest has been killed by Montana Department of Livestock officials after refusing to leave private property after two days of hazing.

A new stage in Yellowstone National Park bison management begins today, as the Interagency Bison Management Plan (IBMP) partner agencies are releasing up to 25 seronegative, monitored and tagged bison to be released onto the land between the northern boundary of Yellowstone National Park and Yankee Jim Canyon, at the northern end of the Gardiner Basin.

A webcam installed at the Mount Washburn fire lookout is aimed to the southeast, with views of Yellowstone Lake, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and Hayden Valley.

Streaming from the second floor of the Albright Visitor Center, the Mammoth Hot Springs webcam is popular for viewing wildlife in the general area right outside the center. It's a popular place for elk, but occasionally you'll see other wildlife wandering through.

Old Faithful

As you might expect, the most photographed geyser -- Old Faithful -- in the world is also the subject of the most webcams. Alas, one major webcam is down, but one installed at the new Visitor Education Center is perfectly positioned to track activity. As a bonus, the new webcam display includes predictions for the next Old Faithful Geyser eruption.
