Yellowstone visitation in June was markedly up from last year, according to new numbers from the Park Service.
669,642 visitors came to Yellowstone National Park in June, bringing visitation past one million total for the first six months. This is a seven plus percent boost from 2013. In total, Yellowstone visitation is up nearly seven percent from 2013. Complete numbers are below:
Month | Visitation 2014 | Visitation 2013 | Change |
January | 26,778 | 24,699 | +8.42% |
February | 28,233 | 31,053 | -9.08% |
March | 18,778 | 18,613 | +0.89% |
April | 31,356 | 24,606 | +27.43% |
May | 310,039 | 293,250 | +5.73% |
June | 669,642 | 624,429 | +7.24% |
Total | 1,084,827 | 1,016,651 | +6.71% |
Not surprisingly, this June’s Yellowstone visitation was augmented by a larger percentage of tour buses traveling through the park. In fact, the number of buses traveling through the Park was up, according to statistics from the North (+25%), West (+34%) and South (+39%) Entrances.
Visitation in the Park is calculated by counting vehicles and then taking a person-per-vehicle multiplier to the tally of vehicles traveling through the Park.
These numbers herald a strong year for Yellowstone visitation, especially since June is usually only the third busiest month of the year. July is, historically, the busiest month for Yellowstone visitation, followed by August.
