Due to a damaged road surface, Firehole Lake Drive is closed temporarily.
Heat from the thermals lining the road caused oil to bubble up and damage the blacktop, which in turn rendered the road impassable.
Maintenance crews will be working on the road over the next few days. It is not known when the road will be traversable again, although the damage seems minimal.
Located between Old Faithful and Madison Junction, the Firehole Lake Drive is a popular scenic route. Connected directly to the Grand Loop Road, the Drive brings visitors along attractions such as White Dome Geyser, Great Fountain Geyser, Firehole Lake and other features.
