Berry Fire Closes Road Between Grand Teton and Yellowstone

A fire has closed off access between Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.

According to Inciweb and Grand Teton’s Facebook page, the Berry Fire in northern Grand Teton has prompted the closure of the highway between the south flank of Leeks Marina and Flagg Ranch. Lizard Creek Campground has been evacuated.

The Berry Fire, as of writing, is 1,785 acres. It is located 19 miles northwest of Moran, WY.

At this time, visitors can no longer travel through Grand Teton to get to Yellowstone—and vice versa. Visitors coming through Wyoming will have to head through either the West or East Entrances.

Earlier today, the National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for the Greater Yellowstone Area, citing conditions that are expected to exacerbate present fire conditions. Maple Fire, for instance, is now more than 22,000 acres and is edging closer to the West Entrance Road.

UPDATE: According to a Grand Teton press release, the road will not open anytime today, August 23.
