New Seismic Monitoring Equipment Slated for Yellowstone

The earthquake monitoring equipment comes from the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory and will be installed by the U.S. Geological Survey, Yellowstone National Park and the University of Utah, augmenting an existing monitoring system. The observatory provides regular data on seismic activity within the Park — a monthly report is issued and widely disseminated — and the new equipment will allow seismic activity to be uploaded directly on the Internet, allowing scholars around the world to examine raw data.
