Yellowstone Junior Ranger Program

The Yellowstone Junior Ranger program is a self-guided adventure for kids 4 and older.  Families can purchase an activity book at any visitor center for $3.00, which contains age-appropriate activities.  After completing the activity book, participants can locate a park ranger (usually in a visitor center), and will receive an official Junior Rangers Patch.  For 4 to 7-year-olds, the patch features Old Faithful, 8 to 12-year-olds get a patch with a bear, and a bison is featured on the patch for those 13 and up.

Winter participants need a Junior Ranger Snowpack, available at the Mammoth and Old Faithful visitor centers. The packs contain items such as thermometers and hand lens, and snowshoes can be checked out at Mammoth visitor center. Winter participants earn a special snowflake patch if they complete the winter program.
