Better late than never: After two weeks of delays caused by heavy, late spring snow conditions, the Beartooth Highway opened to vehicle traffic this morning, allowing unfettered travel between Red Lodge and Cooke City.

It was a rough Memorial Day weekend in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, as road closures both within and outside the Park appeared to dampen the number of visitors to the area. And things won't get better until the weekend at the earliest.

For those needing an alternate route from Cody to Yellowstone National Park: Highway 212 between Cooke City and the Chief Joseph Highway has been plowed and is now open.

The third bear cub associated with an attack at the Soda Butte Campground Wednesday morning has been trapped, as authorities await the results of DNA analysis to see if a captured female grizzly was the culprit in an attack that left one dead and two injured.

Considering conditions have not been favorable for forest fires in Yellowstone National Park in recent weeks, they sure have been a lot of them in recent days. The most recent: the Slough Creek Fire, appearing in the northern portion of the Park.
