Be sure and double-check your plans if you’re heading to Yellowstone National Park in October: the Beartooth Highway is closing early for road construction.

The Beartooth Highway is one of the most beautiful roads in the continental United States, if not the world.

We’re gearing down for the end of the 2014 Yellowstone summer season, with most services shut down and many roads set to close in coming weeks. Still, this is a great time to visit the Park.

Good news for those of you trying to squeeze some Yellowstone fall trips into the schedule: As of this morning, the Beartooth Highway between Red Lodge and Cooke City is open again.

Something to note if you plan on traveling to Yellowstone National Park the next few days: the Beartooth Highway, connecting Red Lodge and Cooke City and eventually the Park’s Northeast Entrance, is temporarily closed because of winter-like conditions.

The Beartooth Highway, Yellowstone’s prettiest gateway road, is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Yellowstone National Park is now completely open for the summer season with the opening of the Dunraven Pass and the Beartooth Highway, connecting Red Lodge, Montana to the Northeast Entrance and Cooke City.

Another sign of spring: crews are clearing the Beartooth Highway in anticipation of a Memorial Day weekend opening.

They’re lucky they’re not dead: a couple leaving Yellowstone National Park ignored or missed road-closed signs and ended up stuck in the snow on the Beartooth Highway before a rancher found them.

Efforts to manage the five fires in Yellowstone National Park have been consolidated into one effort under the Druid Fire Complex banner, as wet and cooler weather has slowed the growth of the larger fires.
