We’re about a month out from Memorial Day, so the time is right for the Montana Department of Transportation to begin spring Beartooth Highway plowing before the Memorial Day weekend.
The spring Beartooth Highway plowing is a pretty intense process, especially after a winter that saw a deeper-than-normal snowpack. Yellowstone National Park opened for partial access last weekend, with more services set to open in Mammoth this coming weekend.
Memorial Day weekend is a ceremonial spot on the Yellowstone calendar, with plenty of folks from Billings and Red Lodge making their first runs to the Park for the season. If the weather holds up (which is always a big if on Memorial Day weekend), there will be plenty of traffic beginning on Friday, May 26, on what’s arguably America’s most scenic highway.
