It’s a annual springtime rite of passage, but this year the traditional Beartooth Highway opening won’t happen on Memorial Day weekend, as bad conditions have hampered snow removal on the Wyoming side.
Parts of the Beartooth Highway will be open, however. Montana crews have completed their plowing, so the highway will be open from Red Lodge to the Wyoming State Line. That includes the popular Vista Point Rest Area, so we expect a lot of folks to make the run there and turn around to return to Red Lodge.
The full Beartooth Highway is now expected to open Friday, June 1.
