Select roads in Yellowstone National Park will reopen to cars this Friday, April 20, 2018, weather permitting.
Select facilities will also reopen over the weekend.
Starting 8 a.m. April 20, cars will be able to travel along the following routes:
• West Entrance to Madison.
• Mammoth to Old Faithful.
• Norris to Canyon.
The road between the North and Northeast Entrances remains open to cars year-round.
Currently, crews are plowing Yellowstone’s roads in anticipation of spring. Plowing will continue through April and May up to Memorial Day Weekend, which marks the officials start of the summer season. You can see the full road opening schedule here.
For any bike lovers out there, this is the last week of spring cycling in the park, when cyclists more or less get the park to themselves—excepting plows and wildlife, of course.
In the meantime, facilities will continue to reopen in batches between April and June. Below are the opening dates and locations for facilities slated to reopen this weekend:
Canyon
• General Store: Opens April 20.
• Canyon Visitor Education Center: Opens April 21.
Old Faithful
• Old Faithful Snow Lodge Geyser Grill: Opens April 20.
• Old Faithful Visitor Center: Opens April 21.
You can see the full list of opening and closing dates here.
UPDATE: Portions of the Mammoth-Norris route may stay closed Friday due to muddy conditions. Read the full story here.
