Yellowstone National Park South Entrance, Yellowstone visitation

Most Yellowstone Entrances, Roads Closing Monday, November 7

If you’re itching to see Yellowstone National Park one more time, better hop in the car now: most of the roads are closing Monday.

According to a Yellowstone press release, the West, South, and East Entrance are slated to close 8 a.m. November 7. In addition, all Park roads (save for the road between the North and Northeast Entrances) will close to vehicle travel.

Roads will start reopening to oversnow travel December 15.

The Dunraven Pass, between Canyon and Tower, closed earlier this year after significant snowfall. The Beartooth Pass, connecting Cooke City and Red Lodge, MT, has closed as well.

Each year, Yellowstone closes most of its roads to prepare for winter and snowmobile/snowcoach travel.

In addition, over the weekend, the following facilities and sites will close:

• Yellowstone Adventure Store in Canyon Village (November 5)
• Snow Lodge Geyser Grill & Bear Den Gift Shop (November 6)
• Lewis Lake Campground (November 6)

Visitors looking for one last weekend drive before the spring should prepare for volatile weather conditions, especially as we creep closer to winter.

As previously reported, the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel will be closed for the next two winters for renovations and improvements.
