Beartooth Highway, Grant Village Open For Summer 2016 Season in Yellowstone

As of 8 a.m. MST, the Beartooth Highway has opened for the 2016 summer season.

In addition, most of Grant Village (save for the campground) and several wrecker/repair services around Yellowstone National Park have also opened for the season. In addition, the Canyon Village Gift Shop and Canyon Cafeteria are slated to open tomorrow, May 28.

The Beartooth Highway is one of Yellowstone’s most picturesque entrance roads, but it is also one of the least-used, given that it is a fairly difficult drive and subject to fluctuating mountain weather. Indeed, the Montana Department of Transportation is warning drivers to keep a close eye out for ice.

Although there are several other facilities (such as the new Canyon Lodges) that won’t be open until after Memorial Day, today’s openings mark the official start of the summer season.

A quick reminder to everyone that the Park will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints around Yellowstone all weekend.
