Snow and bad road conditions are forcing Yellowstone road closures this morning in the southern part of the park, including the sections of the Grand Loop Road from Fishing Bridge to West Thumb and Craig Pass and West Thumb to Old Faithful.
In addition, the section of road between West Thumb and South Entrance was also closed. Since then, all sections of road have reopened.
Snow tires are required for travel within the Park. When in doubt, call the road hotline: 307/344-2117.
Things are winding down in the Park anyway; both the Dunraven Pass section of road and the Beartooth Highway were slated to close early next week.
The snow will probably keep you away from the Park in coming days, but if you go, there’s still a number of attractions and services still open. At the Old Faithful area, the Upper General Store stays open through October 17 and the Old Faithful Snow Lodge remains open through October 23. Meanwhile, the Geyser Grill, Bear Den Gift Shop, and Old Faithful Visitor Education Center remain open through November 6. Here’s a full list of what’s open and what’s closed in Yellowstone National Park.
