Yellowstone Officials: No Winter Biking in Park

Buchanan is one of those crazy folks who loves to bike in winter, on bikes with specially outfitted fat tires to better traverse packed trails early in the day or late in the afternoon. To each their own. It’s not an unsafe practice, really.

Still, when Buchanan checked with Yellowstone authorities, he was told that under no uncertain terms would he be allowed to bike in the Park.

We’re guessing that no one associated with Yellowstone ever actually sat down and said, nope, no biking during winter months. Instead, we’re guessing the subject never actually came up during the most recent round of discussions on a winter plan; after all, there were plenty of other contentious issues on the table, like the number of snowmobiles allowed in during the winter season.

The winter bikes actually sound pretty cool and shouldn’t pose any issues to wildlife in Yellowstone. Let’s hope the next time the winter-use plan is considered bikes are part of the mix
