Report From the Field: Yellowstone Beach Fire Remains Steady

We don’t have an official estimate of the size of the fire yet. Fire fighters — including crews of Helena and Pocatello arriving today — have been working to guide the fire to the burned-out areas created last year by the Arnica fire. So far the weather hasn’t cooperated with efforts to contain the fire (low humidity and gusty winds combined with an area filled with underbrush make ideal conditions for forest fire), but the combination of a late-afternoon thunderstorm and an encroachment on the Arnica Fire area could prevent the fire from reaching the Grand Loop Road and tourist facilities.

So far no roads or facilities have been closed due to the fire. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more from the field.
