Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone’s East Entrance Opens Friday

The entrance will open bright and early at 8 a.m. If you’re hitting the Park from Cody or closer, be prepared for some delays. A one-mile stretch of road through the Sylvan Pass is slated for renovation, and prep work is already underway. The actual road construction should begin between May 15 and the end of the month, depending on the weather; you can expect delays of up to 30 minutes.

The opening is another piece of the Yellowstone puzzle. The opening of the East Entrance will give visitors access to Canyon, the North Entrance, Old Faithful, West Yellowstone and Gardiner, Mont.; the Dunraven Pass (providing access between Canyon and Tower Falls) is slated to open on May 21, depending on the weather. In addition, roads north of West Thumb and the South Entrance are still closed and will not be open until May 14, weather permitting

Currently the road from the park’s North and West Entrances to Madison, Canyon, and Old Faithful are open, but due to construction through Gibbon Canyon, visitors traveling between Norris and Madison can expect up to 30-minute delays through October 20. This section of road will also be closed to travel between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. every night until September 1.

There will be no daytime delays or overnight closures due to construction on any park road project during holiday weekends.
