The road between West Yellowstone and Madison and Old Faithful is open again after heavy winter snows forced its closure Wednesday night and Thursday morning. It’s still not in the best of shape — Park Service officials note that there are still a lot of icy patches — and they are requiring the use of snow tires for any vehicles in the area.
The road between Gardiner, the North Entrance and the Northeast Entrance never closed. All other roads within the Park are still closed in anticipation of the spring season.
Yellowstone is operating with limited services at the Old Faithful area. Power was cut off inside the Park Wednesday, with emergency generators picking up the slack.
With more snow in the forecast, this would be a good weekend to stay home and avoid a visit to the Old Faithful area.
