Small Earthquake Swarm Hits Yellowstone

Some 200 small quakes were recorded in an area 10 miles northwest of the Old Faithful area and some nine miles southeast of West Yellowstone. Most were small, but one quake did register 2.7 on the Richter scale. The swarm is continuing: a 2.3-scale earthquake was recorded this morning at 6:39 a.m. MST. A map of the recorded quakes can be found here.

Almost 80 swarms have been recorded in Yellowstone since 1995.
