Still no Lone Star Fire growth in the past few days, but Yellowstone National Park officials expect to see some with warmer temperatures and drier conditions.

Lone Star Fire expansion was rapid in the last day, with the size of the Yellowstone wildfire now doubled at an estimated 3,346 acres, thanks to favorable weather conditions and lots of mature growth in its path.

The call to withdraw resources from the Bacon Rind Fire on the western edge of Yellowstone may have been premature, as warm and dry weather leads to its expansion and an upgrade to the Yellowstone fire danger to Very High.

Though the Yellowstone fire danger is currently pegged at Very High, things are relatively quiet, as cool weather and scattered showers has helped stall the Bacon Rind Fire and preventing little new fire activity in the Park.

The Bacon Rind Fire on Yellowstone National Park’s western boundary has expanded to 1,838 acres — but most of that growth has been to the south and not impacting Park operations.

We have two more Yellowstone fires reported — one already contained, one out — as the Bacon Rind Fire expands to 1,388 acres and causes Park officials to potentially deploy pilot cars due to heavy smoke.

A hot, dry summer has led Yellowstone National Park officials to raise the fire danger rating to very high, so watch yourself if you’re hitting the Park anytime soon.

We have news about a new Yellowstone fire, the Folsom Fire, while the Bacon Rind Fire on the western National Park boundary continues to grow, albeit at a very slow pace.

Bacon Rind Fire expansion is now at 393 acres, as crews may be deployed to engage the fire if it gets close enough to Highway 191 and private residences in the area.

The current Yellowstone fire danger has been upgraded to high after hot and dry weather, with a new fire — the Bacon Rind Fire — emerging just outside the Park’s western boundary, in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness area.
