Sustainability is a serious topic in Yellowstone National Park, which is why the upcoming award to the Lake and Tower General Stores from the Yellowstone Business Partnership is so important: both buildings were certified as sustainable under the Greater Yellowstone Framework for Sustainable Development (GY-Framework), a rating system that goes beyond LEED standards.

During the fall and spring the historic Lake General Store -- the first built by Charles Hamilton in Yellowstone National Park -- was renovated from top to bottom. It’s now a showcase for historic preservation that leaves the character of the building intact while maintaining the spirit of the facility.
