A plan floated by the Interagency Bison Management Plan to vaccinate Yellowstone National Park bison against brucellosis via air guns and “bio-bullets” is meeting with resistance from the National Park Service and other players in the debate, who say the plan would be largely ineffectual and potentially create “super-strains” of the disease more resistant to traditional vaccines.

A lawsuit brought by the Montana Stockgrowers Association to drastically restrict the movement of bison outside Yellowstone National Park has been dismissed, as a judge ruled the Stockgrowers do not have any rights under a multijurisdictional management plan.

Researchers tracing outbreaks of brucellosis in the greater Yellowstone Ecosystem have discovered "hot spots" of the disease far, far removed from Yellowstone bison -- and squarely in the midst of the elk population.
