A second round of COVID-19 testing for Yellowstone employees yielded no positives, as coronavirus pandemic mitigation measures seem to be doing the job as more and more visitors return.

So far, so good: Testing of the 43 non-symptomatic Yellowstone National Park employees in front-line positions and interacting with the public over the past two weeks yielded no positive COVID-19 results.

With Gov. Steve Bullock lifting Montana’s 14-day out-of-state quarantine as of June 1, as well as other coronavirus-caused closings, the next step will be the potential opening of the three Yellowstone Montana gates, but work needs to be done before a full summer 2020 opening.

The lower loop of Yellowstone will open May 18, with access from the South and East entrances of Wyoming and allowing visitors to access Lake, Canyon, Norris, Old Faithful, West Thumb, and Grant Village. 

With states surrounding the park loosening stay-at-home and out-of-state quarantine rules, we may see a Yellowstone opening plan as the Memorial Day weekend approaches.

A worldwide coronavirus outbreak could impact 2020 Yellowstone visitation, as overseas travel from China and other Asian countries could be seriously curtailed in coming months.
