Heavy traffic has temporarily closed off access to Old Faithful and West Thumb Junction in Yellowstone National Park.
According to a Yellowstone press release, all traffic on the Grand Loop Road is not permitted to enter either Old Faithful or the West Thumb parking area due to lack of space.
Indeed, the park is experiencing traffic congestion and travel delays around the park.
Both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks (and, in fact, the whole state of Wyoming) has seen record traffic in anticipation of the 2017 solar eclipse, which passed over Grand Teton and Jackson, WY.
We will provide updates as this story develops.
UPDATE: Congestion is expected to last through 11 p.m. tonight; additional Yellowstone staff are in Madison Junction directing traffic through to West Yellowstone. More information is available here.
