21-Year-Old Dies After Falling Into Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

A fatality has been reported at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.

According to a Yellowstone press release, in the early morning of August 26, a concession employee fell to her death from Grandview Point. Her body was recovered around 10 a.m.

Estefania Liset Mosquera Alcivar, 21, of Quito, Ecuador, fell after stumbling off a trail tracing the rim. The incident occurred at approximately 3:15 a.m. Alcivar was walking with a group of coworkers who immediately called 911. Park rangers and paramedics identified her body at first light and determined she could not have survived the fall.

The incident is under investigation. All visitors to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone are urged to use caution when walking on the Canyon’s rim trails.
