Yellowstone visitation is already up markedly in 2015.
Between January and May, a total of 515,693 visitors came to Yellowstone National Park. This marks an increase of just over 24 percent. In comparison, 415,185 visitors were recorded between January and May 2014.
In addition, in May 2015, there was an increase of 23.75 percent over last year, as 383,670 visitors came through the Park. The full table of Yellowstone visitation statistics is below:
Month | Recreational Visits 2015 | Recreational Visits 2014 |

January | 28,091 | 26,778 | +4.9% |
February | 34,343 | 28,233 | +21.64% |

May | 383,670 | 310,039 | +23.75% |
Total to Date | 515,693 | 415,185 | +24.21% |
In addition, from March 16-June 13 2015, 624,710 visits were recorded at Yellowstone National Park’s nine visitor centers, museums and contact stations. This shows a 22.6 percent increase from the same period in 2014.
The Park gathers these statistics by counting the number of vehicles that have entered through the Park gates, then using a person-per-vehicle multiplier to calculate these statistics.
These numbers show promise for a record or at least busy season. July and August tend to be the most popular months for Yellowstone visitation, and we don’t have June’s full numbers yet. Nonetheless, based on this trend, the people are coming in droves.
