The Yellowstone South Entrance opens May 8, as visitors will be able to travel through to Grant Village, West Thumb Junction and on to Fishing Bridge.
You can view the current road conditions here.
The opening of the South Entrance means all Yellowstone National Park entrances are open, but not all roads are open. The stretch between Tower-Roosevelt and Canyon Junction (Dunraven Pass) is scheduled to open May 22 (the Friday before Memorial Day weekend) as is the Beartooth Highway outside the Park.
Services within the Park also open May 8, including facilities at Fishing Bridge and the Old Faithful Inn.
In addition, there’s some construction within the Park worth noting. Due to construction on the Isa Lake Bridge, Craig Pass between West Thumb Junction and Old Faithful is closed until June 11. Visitors planning to travel to Old Faithful from the South Entrance will need to take the Grand Loop Road through Fishing Bridge Junction, Canyon Junction, Norris Junction and on to Old Faithful. In addition, there’s construction north of the Norris Junction that could impact traffic.
