A sad turn of events in Yellowstone National Park: a visitor was found dead near a ski trail this last weekend.

Around noon on Saturday, January 23, a few visitors snowshoeing discovered what they believed was a human body near a ski trail in the northern portion of the Park.

The visitors called 911, and rangers responded at the Frog Rock trailhead, eight and a half miles from Mammoth Hot Springs.

The victim was identified as 52-year-old Merik Morgan, who hails from Belgrade, Montana. His body was found near the ski trail along Blacktail Plateau Drive.

Mr. Morgan is believed to have died from hypothermia, although the incident is still under investigation.
