Be prepared for some road delays in Yellowstone National Park in a few weeks, as the resurfacing of the highway between Mammoth Hot Springs and Tower will start Aug. 6.
That stretch of road is in sore need of repair. It’s also a key road in the Yellowstone world: it is one of the few that’s open year-round, as it served as a vital connection between Mammoth and the Northeast Entrance.
Roadwork is slated to last for a week, ending Aug. 11 if weather and the elements cooperate. If you can avoid the road, do so, especially if you’re driving a motorhome. Expect delays of up to 30 minutes for cars, two hours for larger vehicles, and don’t be surprised if you’re detoured south to Norris and Canyon.
