Yellowstone’s East Entrance Road Slated to Reopen May 4, 2018

Weather-permitting, the East Entrance road and route between Lake and Canyon Village in Yellowstone National Park will reopen to vehicles May 4, 2018.

According to a Yellowstone press release, however, it’s possible the East Entrance road may remain closed. Currently, there is significant snowpack on the Sylvan Pass. Warm and sunny weather may create significant avalanche danger.

Yellowstone rangers will continue to monitor the situation as it develops.

May 4 will mark the first significant spate of road openings in Yellowstone since April 20, when the West Entrance road reopened, along with the route between Mammoth and Old Faithful.

Currently, road construction is happening on two stretches of park road: between Willow Park and Roaring Mountain on the Mammoth-Norris road and between Fishing Bridge and Indian Pond. Drivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes along those routes.

Roads in Yellowstone will continue to reopen from May 4 to May 25. The Beartooth Highway, which connects the Northeast Entrance to Red Lodge, Montana, is also slated to reopen May 25. You can see the full road schedule here.
