Sudden Snowstorm Shuts Down Most Yellowstone Roads

A sudden snowstorm has closed most of the roads in Yellowstone National Park, including some that only recently reopened.

According to Yellowstone officials, the following routes are closed to vehicles at this time:

• Between Canyon and Lake.
• Between Norris and Canyon.
• The Sylvan Pass/East Entrance Road.
• Between Lake Village and West Thumb.
• South Entrance Road.
• The Craig Pass between West Thumb and Old Faithful.

The East Entrance route only reopened Friday, May 12 although it was closed for parts of the weekend due to avalanche danger.

The Dunraven Pass between Tower-Roosevelt and Canyon remains closed at this time and will reopen (weather pending) May 26.

We will update this story when the roads reopen.

Meanwhile, you can see a full list of opening and closing dates for Yellowstone here.

UPDATE: As of 8:50 a.m. MST, these routes are still closed.

SECOND UPDATE: Several routes in western/southern Yellowstone have reopened. Read the full story here.
