Yellowstone Winter Season Starts December 15

Yellowstone National Park’s winter season opens 8 a.m. Thursday, December 15.

Starting then, visitors will be able to enter the Park in motorized oversnow vehicles (snowmobiles and snowcoaches) through the North, West, and South Entrances. Visitors with proper permits will be allowed to undertake non-commercial guided snowmobile tours, as part of the Non-commercially Guided Snowmobile Access Program.

In addition, a number of facilities will be opening December 15 around Yellowstone:

Canyon

• Canyon Visitor Education Center Lobby.

Madison Junction

• Madison Warming Hut.

Old Faithful

• Old Faithful Visitor Education Center.
• Geyser Grill.
• Bear Den Gift Shop.
• Ski Shop.

The following places will open December 16:

Old Faithful

• Old Faithful Snow Lodge.
• Obsidian Dining Room.

Mammoth Hot Springs

• Terrace Grill.
• Ski shop.

Finally, the following places will open December 18:

Fishing Bridge

• Fishing Bridge Warming Hut.

Mammoth Hot Springs

• Mammoth Warming Hut.

Indian Creek

• Indian Creek Warming Hut.

Old Faithful

• Old Faithful Warming Yurt.

West Thumb:

• West Thumb Warming Hut.

As always, visitors can drive year-round between the North and Northeast Entrances. The Albright Visitor Center, Yellowstone General Store, medical clinic, campground, and post office is Mammoth are open year-round. 24-hour gas pump service is available in Mammoth and Tower Junction.

The East Entrance will open to oversnow travel Thursday, December 22.
