Fall 2012 in Yellowstone: Watch For Road Changes

It’s now the fall season in Yellowstone National Park; for many, it’s one of the most beautiful times of the year, but there are some road closures to note if you’re visiting.

In theory, many Yellowstone National Park roads are open through November 5, as the park staff transitions to a winter schedule. From November 5 to next spring, the only Yellowstone road open is the passage through the Lamar Valley and Mammoth, between Gardiner and Cooke City, Mt.

However, there is a road closure you should note: The road from Tower Junction to a barricade just north of the Chittenden Road turnoff on Dunraven Pass is closed for the season. Visitors will be able to access Chittenden Road and the Mt. Washburn area from Canyon Village to the south.

Two more road closures to plan on: The Dunraven Pass road will close for the season at 8 a.m., Oct. 9, while the Beartooth Highway outside the Park will close the same day.

If there’s a hint of snow in the air, plan ahead: updated information on park roads is available 24 hours a day by calling 307-344-2117.
