There had been plans by some NPS officials to slaughter 100 of the bison, but we received some mixed signals about how serious those plans were. They were serious enough that Buffalo Field Campaign lawyers had a meeting with NPS attorneys, who then reported slaughter was off the table.
The release has been delayed: NPS officials say the heavy snowpack in the Park is delaying the release of the bison; there’s simply not the grass yet, as spring has yet to be sprung in most of Yellowstone. However, at the same time bison are being hazed out of the Gardiner Basin by IBMP agencies, where there is grass.
